Alpaca Fiber

The value of alpaca fleece is the economic basis of the future market for alpacas. An alpaca breeder with a small herd on small acreage can expect to harvest his animals' fiber and sell their offspring profitably.

Most alpaca ranchers readily sell their fleece for $2 to $6 an ounce to local artisans. Each animal on average will produce five to eight pounds of fleece a year.

Lucky

Lucky

Lucky came to us from a rescue situation so unfortunately we do not know much about him.  He is gelded and we guess he is maybe four or five years old so he has lots of fiber yet to be produced.  One thing we do know is that he gives us some of the best fiber of our older males.  People who spin go crazy for his fiber as it has all the attributes they are looking for and his fiber makes beautiful yarn.

Bellagio

Bellagio is our little Suri boy who was born in July 2008. He is Belle’s second baby and his sire is the award-winning Lancelot’s Jonah. Bellagio has a very calm and curious personality like his sister Bella. Bellagio won a 2nd place ribbon in the pattern class at Alpacapalooza 2009

Benny

Tarde’ Benedicion (aka Benny) has fine but dense fiber, great uniformity, with excellent handle and crimp.  His sire is blue ribbon winner Eastwind’s Pagador who is an extremely rare true black 1/2 Accoyo out of Accoyo Victor whose dam was a true black Chilean.  Benny’s dam is also true black with some Chilean bloodlines.  Benny has personality plus and some of the softest fiber you’ll find.

P.J.

Pagador’s Menor (aka P.J.) is the mirror image of his award winning sire Pagador.  His sire is an extremely rare true black 1/2 Accoyo out of Accoyo Victor and his dam is a full Bolivian.  PJ has his sire’s conformation with fiber that has great handle and uniformity along with being fine and dense.  PJ also has a calm and friendly personality.

Jethro (Lama)

Jethro is our guard llama.  Guard llamas are used for sheep as well as alpacas.  They will literally “guard” the herd from any predators that might endanger the animals.  Their size and strength are very intimidating and Jethro definitely does his job for our alpacas.  He’s always on the alert for anything out of the ordinary.
