Alpaca Fiber

The value of alpaca fleece is the economic basis of the future market for alpacas. An alpaca breeder with a small herd on small acreage can expect to harvest his animals' fiber and sell their offspring profitably.

Most alpaca ranchers readily sell their fleece for $2 to $6 an ounce to local artisans. Each animal on average will produce five to eight pounds of fleece a year.

CC meets new little AJ!

A.J. (Almond Joy) is Here!

Our new little cria arrived on April 5. He joins his older brothers Cookies ‘n Creme (CC) and Hershey so we chose a name that continued the “sweets” tradition (thanks to our friends at Hopes & Dreams Alpacas for the suggestion).

He weighed over 16# and his left ear was a little bent but it is already straightening out.  This picture was taken just hours after he was born.  We put on his “cria coat” because the weather hasn’t been very warm.  Yesterday he started “humming” and was jumping around a bit so I’m sure he’ll be running by Farm Days!

Spring Farm Days!!!!

Watch your email for details about our Spring Farm Days.  We are tentatively looking at the first weekend of June and are praying that we’ll have a healthy little cria to show off!  (See the following post…)

In the meantime, you can still order our unique alpaca items on our website.  We can ship them USPS Priority Mail or you can stop by to pick up your order (and visit the alpacas)!

We look forward to seeing everyone later in the Spring!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

WhiteOutLove is in the air and a baby is on the way. White Out is due on April 22 and we are looking forward to welcoming a new little one!  Check our website blog for updates!

New yarn from Lucky

If you or someone you know is a fiber artist, you will love the yarn we just received made from  Lucky’s fiber.   It is FANTASTIC! We had the mill mix his beautiful fawn fiber with a dark brown for a “heathered” yarn that is one of our most popular.  We had some for sale last year and they sold out before our Fall Farm Days so if you are interested, contact us quickly before they are all gone!  We have lots of other colors to choose from including a rich black from Benny and PJ so contact us by phone at (253) 926-2582 or email:  FirwoodFarmAlpacas@comcast.net

Alpaca Farm Days

Fall is just around the corner and our Alpaca Farm Days are coming up quickly on Sept. 25-27!

For those of you who haven’t visited us before, twice a year we open our farm to the public so you can “meet” our alpacas, feed them and learn more about these amazing animals from South America!
We are in the process of updating our website and will now have an online store where you can purchase our alpaca products at any time! Our alpaca products store will also be open at Farm Days.     www.firwoodfarmalpacas.com

Its A Boy!

HE’S HERE!!! On August 6, 2009 our Suri mom Belle gave birth to a bouncing baby boy whose nickname is Buddy.

Just a reminder our Alpaca Farm Days are SEPT. 25-27 !!!!

You can see me at Farm Days…

New baby at Firwood Farm

We are “alpaca sitting” for some friends who are on vacation and also raise alpacas. Their dam was due when they would be gone so we set up our “maternity ward” and welcomed a new little girl today, July 2.

She is VERY cute (aren’t they all?) and was up and running around on wobbly legs just a few hours after she was born.

If you’d like to come and visit this little cutie, just call first to set up a time.
